I love to read and to learn, and I also love to share when I stumble upon amazing books. These 6 books were my favorite reads from 2018 and I think you’ll enjoy them as well. I’ve attached Amazon links in case you want to buy a copy today! I also enjoy getting reading recommendations from others, so please leave a comment if you’ve recently read something that you really loved. Thanks!
In no particular order:
Leadership: In Turbulent Times by Doris Kearns Goodwin
A quick and interested look at how four former presidents (Lincoln, L. Johnson, both Roosevelts) led during challenging times. Leaders or lovers of history will enjoy this wonderful book.
Everything Happens For A Reason: And Other Lies I’ve Loved by Kate Bowler
I loved this book so much that I led a book study on it at our church. This is my favorite book from 2018 and I wish I could put a copy in everyone’s hands. Gentle, honest, and at times humorous, Bowler invites readers into her life as she battles cancer and engages well-meaning friends who offer advice along the way.
Irresistible: Reclaiming the New that Jesus Unleashed for the World by Andy Stanley
This book is intelligent and well written. I’ve heard Stanley at conferences and workshops and enjoy his weekly sermons as well. While I love his intelligence and passion for the church, I am most drawn to him for his humility and grace-filled approach to others. I recommend this book for everyone, but especially for church leaders.
Glass Houses by Louise Penney
I love Penney’s Inspector Gamache series. If you are looking for a novel to escape into, look no further. Do yourself a favor and go back to the beginning and read the entire series!
The Remarkable Ordinary: How to Stop, Look, and Listen to Life by Frederick Buechner
A collection of mostly unpublished lectures, this small book by Buechner, like everything from him, is good for the soul.
Everybody, Always by Bob Goff
Bob Goff is a force of nature. Thankfully, he brings us into his amazing adventures and reminds us that love for everybody, always is the highest calling of all.
I hope you enjoy these books and remember to leave me any recommendations you may have in the comments!
