Few authors had as clear an understanding about the challenges of growing as a Christian as did Dallas Willard, and few books explain the process better than his 1988 classic, The Spirit of the Disciplines: Understanding How God Changes Lives. There are a small number of books that should be read and reread over your life, but this book is among that elite group. Willard discusses with great intellect and depth the Christian life and how we grow. He does it in a way that anyone can grasp, however, which is a rare skill. He discusses the theology of Christian growth as well as practical strategies for the reader to implement into their life. I could not recommend a book any more highly than I recommend The Spirit of the Disciplines.
