The fourth book on my list of books that I’ve most enjoyed in 2017 was a recent release. Ali: A Life by Jonathan Eig was an entertaining and informative look at one of the most celebrated and controversial athletes of all time. Eig does an amazing job of not just recounting the events of Ali’s life, but also gives you a glimpse into the person behind the larger than life persona. A marketing genius when it came to filling arenas for his fights, Ali was also incredibly naïve when it came to his earnings. He took advantage of many people along his way to stardom and was taken advantage of as well. Ali was a paradox in many ways, and Eig’s biography does a wonderful job of unpacking all of the interesting facets of the champ.
